Save Time, and Make Your Homepage 'Local'
Instead of visiting Yahoo! or MSN or even your own website each time you connect to the Web, why not make your homepage a web page that exists on your own computer?
Not only will this page load quicker - saving you time! - but your home page can have resources and links important to you and your business (not important to Yahoo! and its business!); i.e. a list of your favourite websites, or those websites that you just visit on a regular basis. And if you really must visit Yahoo! every day, then just put a link to Yahoo! on your 'local' homepage.

Try Not To Rely on Google Too Much!
Everyone knows that Google is *the* search engine to get listed on these days.
Don't depend on it, though.
In November 2003, Google refreshed its database with a new 'algorithm' that didn't favour my mini-sites too much. And, in an instant, traffic to these sites dropped by 75%. Big ouch! That is a scary drop in traffic for anybody! In September 2005 another site lost 66% of its traffic. Need I go on...
So here are some strategies to cope with Google not favouring your site (it could happen!):
- Develop a variety of ways to collect e-mail addresses. Use competitions,
e-mail courses, whatever you can to get that e-mail address. Then get
visitors to return to your site with regular (and useful) newsletter content.
- Add more content to your site - create more in-bound links on your
homepage - and make the site more useful to your visitors (and therefore
more 'useful' to Google). Again, you can simply add a few new pages each
week. The content will soon grow.
- Start to use pay-per-click search engines like Overture, Espotting
and even Google's AdWords program.
- Start to use web 2.0 sites like MySpace, Digg.com and Squidoo to generate links to your site
