How To Ease So-Called "Buyer's-Remorse"

You'd be hard put to find a person in the industrialized world who hasn't wondered about the wisdom of a purchase in the cold light of the next day. Psychologists and sales experts call this widespread phenomenon "buyer's remorse." Take these steps to soothe that anxiety instead of letting it blossom into a refund request.

* Send a personal thank-you to each buyer when possible - not an obviously canned autoresponder message or a mass-produced cover letter, but a brief one-to-one note. A personal touch reduces fear that you were just out to take their money.

* Deliver everything you promised, and more. Adding an unannounced "extra" sparks delight that helps buyers relax.

* Remind purchasers of the benefits they're going to enjoy from your product or service. Give them clear instructions for anything they must do next so that they have a positive experience using what they bought.

* Invite buyers to contact you if they have any questions, problems or compliments. Most won't, but your offer further defuses any worry on their part.
